Crediting Original Works

Hello Fanatical Fam,

It’s Sequoia Simone and Kim from the future! You’ve no doubt come here for a link to a fanfiction we read on our podcast. We’re so happy you want to read the original text!

For the first few years of this podcast, we were not providing these links, and we had a few reasons for this. Firstly, we didn’t make this podcast to put these old, silly stories on blast. We love fanfiction, and we love every story we read on the podcast. Secondly, when we started, we didn’t know what our audience was going to look like. The last thing we wanted to do was have people go to these stories and leave hurtful comments on them. Thirdly, we often edit the stories to some extent, sometimes very heavily. We do this mostly for length or content. The time period we pull from can be insensitive, and the original works will sometimes include jokes or characters that are stereotypical or harmful.

We never expected the response to this podcast or the amazing community that has grown around it. The concerns we had don’t seem as relevant anymore. They are certainly not as important as giving credit where it is due. So, we have added this post to the descriptions of all of our previous episodes to rectify this. With our original intent in mind, please treat these stories respectfully and remember to read them critically.

Thank you so much for listening and for being a part of this wonderful, fanfic loving community.

With love,
Sequoia Simone and Kim
